Take advantage of as many of the opportunities available to you as you can. Study hard, but make time for yourself. Join clubs, go to office hours, take elective classes that interest you. Get an internship, go to the Career Development center, go to info sessions and job fairs. Get involved in any way that interests you. You'll meet people, make friends, and hopefully begin to figure out what you want to do after college!
Don't be afraid to ask questions you don't understand about =]
Teachers are friends not foes =]
Get involved in something that matters to you. Not all the learning happens in the classroom.
...oh, and get curly fries instead of regular fries at the cafeteria (if available)
"Accept all the help and advice that is offered, and don't be afraid to seek it out yourself. Professors and peers can be incredibly helpful in acclimating to college life."
"Don't give up!"
"To definitely go through the application process no matter how tedious, because trust me, finances are not the main issue in gaining admission. Also, finding a core group of friends early in the college experience is integral to succeeding and making a smooth transition both academically and socially."
"Try to make friends quickly and get to know your professors well."
"Fight the social injustice and make a stand for who you are. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you. A college degree is probably one of the things someone can never take away from you. You can have your money, friends, family, job, etc all taken away but your education and self worth you gain from that education are forever."
"Get an internship in a field of your interest within the first 2 years of college. Set up your career so that when you graduate, you're already with a foot in the door. Most internships like providing college credit and so it's A LOT easier to get them when you're still a student."
"Networking and making friends is definitely good to do because not only do you have fun with friends, but you also learn info and other necessary things you may not have been exposed to otherwise."
"Regardless of the obstacles that you may face, you can always overcome them, because once you succeed in college, the door of success will open and you will be thankful that you did the correct thing by staying in school."
