What are you doing in High School to make sure you go to college?

College takes time and effort and it begins while you're in high school. How are you preparing yourself to be successful?

I always told myself that if I work hard in the present that my future would be much easier because everything pays off at the end. So now in high school im getting involved in many different activites and trying to challenge myself with AP/honor classes.
I try to get the highest grades I can while I still have the chance.
To make sure I go to college, I am trying to get grades B and above. I know that grades matter a lot but also after school activities which I need to get involved in. Also being informed about what colleges want and what my goals should be to have a greater chance of being accepted by colleges. Basically it is good to just have goals to accomplish to get into college is a good base to start.
I am trying to get the best grades I can right now in high school so I can get into a good college.
I think that you need good grade, I think that homework and Test grades really matter. But, I also think that it is really important to have goals and start mapping out what you are going to do in college. You need a GAME PLAN, as well as getting involved with your school, like clubs, these are super important!!!
I try to stay positive about my future, as much as possible, and be aware of when I am putting myself down, or telling myself I can't.
I also try to keep my grades at their best.
I am taking Honors classes to raise my GPA so colleges can look at it, focusing on doing extra curricular activities also as a plus for my future.
Glenda,

well said. I also believe in the phrase that says "pay now, play later." Some people do the opposite and it's harder on them later on.

If you challenge yourself with those AP/honor classes, college will be much easier because you will have that extra preparation. If you take AP/Honors classes, then college classes won't seem as bad as people make them sound.
Elizabeth,

Getting into college is a lot more than just grades like you said. Being involved in sports, clubs, and community service helps out a lot too. For me, being involved helped me improve my time management skills as well, which is really important when you're in college since you have many things to focus on at the same time.
Melissa,

Staying positive is a great skill to have for life. Sometimes we can't control what happens to us, but we can definitely control how we react to it. Everyone has challenges, and some of them seem very difficult to overcome, but if you remember that all things happen for a reason, you'll be much better off.

The only person that can hold you back is yourself. Always keep moving forward and make sure to find someone who can inspire you and motivate you rather than someone who will also put you down.

Let me know if you have any questions.

-Carlos
Hallef,

That's a great way to look at things. Colleges want a student who is well rounded so being a good student, but also remember to be involved with extra activities such as sports/clubs.

Keep it up.
Totally true Salvador. You can't rely on just grades and SAT scores to get you into a college. You need to show that you are a committed and involved student and community member - by joining clubs, playing sports, volunteering, even working or taking classes at a local community college!
