Kimberlly Araracap replied to Carlos's discussion 'What are you doing in High School to make sure you go to college?'
Hi Mackenzie!   I can't tell for sure if the advanced classes I took in high school helped me in the college classes I'm taking right now, because they're not math or science related. But, I can honestly say that…

Kimberlly Araracap replied to Carlos's discussion 'What are you doing in High School to make sure you go to college?'
When I was in high school, I tried to challenge myself in my classes by taking honors and AP classes. Not only was it more interesting to learn the materials in a deeper level, but I was also able to teach myself perseverance (from all of the work…

Hey Carlos!

I want to say thanks for being a great member of Zoomz. We really appreciate your dedication!

Wanted to see if I can get your help on something. We created a survey to get feedback on the community and was hoping you could take 10 min to take it. If you complete it, we will enter you in a drawing for a $25 iTunes card.

Here it is:

What kind of member are you?
College Grad, 1st Generation Hero
High School Education (Name of School, Graduation Year)
Santa Clara University '09, Management Major
Are you or your siblings the first in your family to attend college?
yes
What are the biggest challenges you faced or are facing as a high school student? How did you overcome those obstacles?
Being the first in my family to go to college, figuring out the whole college process was a big challenge. I didn't know where to go or who to ask, but fortunately my high school counselors and teachers helped me along the way.

It was also difficult trying to figure what classes to take, even though I always challenged myself with AP and Honors classes. Balancing this and my extracurricular activities was another challenge because it required a lot of time management and balance.
What are your educational goals? What are you doing to reach those goals?
Right now, I am not planning on going back to school in the near future. I believe that my management degree will help me in my career but perhaps an MBA in the future can be part of my plans.
What advice would you give others to be successful in high school and college?
I think it is important to set priorities right. There are always many things that keep us busy, but if we remember the importance of education and balance it correctly with the fun activities we want to do, we will be successful.

Something else that is important is to ask for help. I know that this was not easy for me because I was used to doing things on my own, but the sooner we realize that others know what it takes to be successful, the easier it can be for us.
Who has helped you to achieve success throughout your school career?
Many people are responsible for getting me to where I am today. The love and support of my parents has been great and very important in my life. The encouragement of peers and assistance from counselors and advisers made college a possibility. I think self-discipline is also very important because we have to know how to balance our lives and set our priorities straight. School is not easy, but a strong work ethic and dedication will serve anyone well.

Make success a habit!

Posted on February 22, 2010 at 1:13am 0 Comments

Did you know that our present circumstances is the result of the actions we have taken in the past? In other words, we are where we are today, because of what we did yesterday. Where we end up tomorrow depends highly on what we do today.

A habit is something that we do without much thought. Our subconscious mind reads it and we do it pretty much automatically. Some habits are good and some habits are bad for different aspects of our lives. Smoking and drinking are habits that can be… Continue

The battle is in your mind!

When I was in High School, I worried a lot about getting good grades.

I was always trying to do better and fortunately, my dedication and hard work paid off!

Sometimes, however, I did feel bummed out because I wasn't doing too well in some classes such as History and English. Those weren't my best subjects!

I worried that I wouldn't be prepared for my college classes. I even thought about the worst case scenarios: being rejected from my dream… Continue
