Profile Information

What kind of member are you?
College Student
High School Education (Name of School, Graduation Year)
Milpitas High, 2008
College Education (Name of School, Graduation Year, Major)
San Jose State University, 2013, Liberal Studies in prep for teaching
Are you or your siblings the first in your family to attend college?
Yes
What are the biggest challenges you faced or are facing as a high school student? How did you overcome those obstacles?
Some of the biggest challenges I faced while in high school were staying focused and not be distracted by peers who did not have the same goals in life that I did. It was hard to not go out with friends who got into trouble, but when I looked at where they were headed in the future I realized we had two different pathways in life. Yes, they were my friends, but making the right decisions not to do some of the things they were doing paid off because I am on my way to success, while most of them barley graduated high school or did not graduate at all.
What are your educational goals? What are you doing to reach those goals?
I am currently attending San Jose State University to become a special education or middle school teacher. I am finishing up my third year in the liberal studies bachelors program. After completion of earning my bachelors degree I plan on applying for the concurrent credential program at San Jose State. With this credential it will allow me to obtain my credentials to teach k-8 and special education students.
What advice would you give others to be successful in high school and college?
The best advice I can give to help stay on track and be a successful student is to never give up and to turn in all of your assignments on time. It is harder to catch up when you are behind in a class than to do all of your assignments on time. Even if the assignment isn't A work, you will still end up earning a better grade by turning the assignment in on time than turning it in late or never turning it in at all. Also, go to class! One of the easiest way to earn good grades is to be present at all times.
Who has helped you to achieve success throughout your school career?
My parents, coaches and teachers. My parents have always been supportive towards my education and have pushed me to stay focused. Another aspect to my success are coaches. Coaches for sports teams were also like mentors, people I could talk to and count on for advice with school, work, and other persona issues. Teachers have also been a huge impact on my school career, I have always had good relationships with teachers, because believe it or not they are there to help! Any teacher is willing to help and student who asks, it shows you are motivated, determined and willing to do what it takes to earn good grades.
What are your interests and hobbies? What do you like to do for fun? (Select all that apply)
Art, Camping, Dancing, Exercise, Mathematics, Music, Reading, Shopping, Sleeping, Sports, Traveling

Weekends.  Usually, you can use them to work, hang out with friends, or catch up on homework you've gotten behind on because you just HAD to see the new episode of American Idol.  But since when are there weekend classes? There are times when the…See More
