What kind of member are you?: College Grad

High School Education (Name of School, Graduation Year): Livingston High School

College Education (Name of School, Graduation Year, Major): San Jose State University

Are you or your siblings the first in your family to attend college?: Yes

What are the biggest challenges you faced or are facing as a high school student? How did you overcome those obstacles?: One of the challenges for me was learning English and being the first one in my family to attend college. Learning how to read and write in English was a difficult ordeal for me to overcome, yet I did it with dedication and persistence. Being the first one of my family to attend a four year university was a challenge because they had high expectations of me. Nonetheless, I was able to overcome these two challenges and many more with the motivation from family and relatives who supported me during my years in college.

What are your educational goals? What are you doing to reach those goals?: I'm a current Graduate student at the University of Southern California (USC) finishing my MA in Teaching with a Social Science credential. And my plan is to apply to my Ph.D in Urban Education.

What advice would you give others to be successful in high school and college?: Ganas!Ganas! and Ganas! I had to make sacrifices of many kinds, but I know they will eventually pay off some day.
