Greek life

Many students enter college with the prospects of becoming a part of the campus Greek life.  We hear about it all the time in movies, TV shows, commercials, etc. about the many fun and integrating experiences that a sorority or a fraternity can offer. These groups are said to create close bonds, friendships, and networking opportunities that enrich the college experience. When you enter a typical college campus, you will see many Greek banners, stands, or posters adorning the walls which…See More

Very true. Also to add, forming reading/study groups can also benefit anyone in case you miss the main point. Nice post bro.

True, first year of college is mostly about exploring your options and what you like to do. All the extra curricular activities also help you meet a lot of people. Nice picture btw.

Benefits from choosing your own classes

One of my favorite things about going to college is the opportunity to pick out the classes I needed to take. Unlike high school, all college students have the decision of choosing their class schedules and the professors/teachers they want to take the course with. Some of you can relate to me, but I often had one teacher in high school that was not teaching at their full ability. This frustrated me a lot because I did not learn and felt it was a waste of time. When I started college, the issue…See More

Profile Information

What kind of member are you?
College Student
High School Education (Name of School, Graduation Year)
Santa Teresa, 2008
College Education (Name of School, Graduation Year, Major)
UC Davis, 2012, Communcation, Education
Are you or your siblings the first in your family to attend college?
Yes
What are the biggest challenges you faced or are facing as a high school student? How did you overcome those obstacles?
The biggest challenge I faced during high school was not having my priorities straight. During high school, my main priority was doing well in sports and my friends. In school, I did the bare minimum of getting a 2.0-2.5 to stay on the team. I made a lot of poor decisions in my first 3 years of high school like cutting class. During my senior year, I joined a club team for track which became the turning point in my life. I had a lot of coaches and parents there that encourage me to strive to be better. They helped me change my priorities and mature. After barely graduating high school, I enrolled myself at a community college and set my priorities straight which goes, family, education, track. Changing my priorities gave me another chance for a better education, athletics, but more important the relationship with my friends and family.
What are your educational goals? What are you doing to reach those goals?
My educational goals right now is to get my bachelor's degree and masters. Hopefully in a year or 2, I would like to see myself having a career in education, whether it is teaching or the administrative side of education. I want to get my feet wet in many fields as possible and see which one I'm better at.
What advice would you give others to be successful in high school and college?
Work hard for what you want. Don't slack off. Have a goal and keep yourself on track. Have fun and ask for help when needed.
Who has helped you to achieve success throughout your school career?
My parents, friends, and coaches all had their share of helping me succeed. They kept me in check.
What are your interests and hobbies? What do you like to do for fun? (Select all that apply)
Art, Dancing, Exercise, Movies, Music, Reading, Science, Sleeping, Sports, Technology, Television, Traveling, Video Games

Tis the season for College Applications.

Posted on November 18, 2011 at 10:30pm 1 Comment

Usually during the month of November, many seniors in high school or transfer students in community college are in the process of applying to a university. In this blog, I would like to share my experiences and some helpful strategies when applying for college. When I first applied to a university, the first thing I thought about was the fear of getting rejected. I felt my grades were not good enough and my friends would judge me if I didn’t get into a university. I felt overwhelmed with…
