Profile Information

What kind of member are you?
College Student
High School Education (Name of School, Graduation Year)
Saint Pedro Poveda College, 2008
College Education (Name of School, Graduation Year, Major)
Santa Clara University, 2012, Marketing
Are you or your siblings the first in your family to attend college?
No
What are the biggest challenges you faced or are facing as a high school student? How did you overcome those obstacles?
My biggest challenge as a high school student was being able to juggle all of my responsibilities. There was always so much school work to do, and I wanted to do really well in my classes, plus I had some major commitments to the school paper and the Community Service and Development Corps. Also, I wanted to be able to spend time with my friends! (And let's not forget college applications!)

I think the most effective thing I did was to identify which things were important, which were urgent, and which were both. That helped give me perspective so that I didn't get overwhelmed with the work. It's important to work hard, but it's also good to give yourself a break once in a while. Also, be honest with yourself - if you just spent an hour watching youtube videos, don't pretend you didn't, but don't beat yourself up over it either! Instead, focus on trying to accomplish something before the night is over.
What are your educational goals? What are you doing to reach those goals?
I intend to graduate college with a degree in Commerce, and with the best grades possible. That means really dedicating myself to my studies, putting in long hours of work, and making it a point to show my teachers what I'm made of! Also, I never take learning opportunities for granted.

I also hope to eventually take an MFA in Creative Writing, so I've been studying literature and trying to hone my writing on the side. I think it's great to keep yourself occupied with another passion (besides school) so that there's something to balance your interests out.
What advice would you give others to be successful in high school and college?
Appreciate your education, which is not something everyone has access to. When you think about all the deserving kids in the world who would love to go to school but can't, it really makes you have a greater sense of responsibility to do well! Try to engage yourself with the lessons and think positively - even if you don't see how you'll be applying calculus or chemistry in your future, there's always something interesting to learn in the subject, and you never know who you'll impress with your extra knowledge! Finally, as long as you try your best - meaning you can say, with complete honesty, "I gave it my all" - then you are certain to (eventually, because immediately just doesn't always happen) succeed.
What do you like to do for fun? (Select all that apply)
Art, Creative Writing, Movies, Music, Photography, Reading, Technology, Video Games, Other
