Profile Information

What kind of member are you?
College Student
High School Education (Name of School, Graduation Year)
La Joya Senior High School, La Joya, Texas, May 2006.
College Education (Name of School, Graduation Year, Major)
Major: Business Administration in Management, The University of Texas Pan American, Edinburg, Texas, May 2010.
Are you or your siblings the first in your family to attend college?
Yes
What are the biggest challenges you faced or are facing as a high school student? How did you overcome those obstacles?
One of the biggest challenges for me during high school was that I had to change schools in the middle of the semester because I was a migrant student. This was always a disadvantage it kept me away from sports and extra curricular activities that at times attracted me, but most importantly it interrupted my learning abilities. However, I managed to overcome this struggle by always going to class and doing the best I could do to adapt to the new environment and catch up as fast as possible. After school tutoring and homework on the week ends also helped me complete high school and enter a university.
What are your educational goals? What are you doing to reach those goals?
My educational goals is to complete a Masters degree, possibly a Ph.D in the future. Currently I am enrolled in a masters program in Mexican American Studies at San Jose State University, my ultimate goal is to help as many students to receive a quality education that prepares them for a better future for them but the community as well.
What advice would you give others to be successful in high school and college?
There is no formula in how to reach success, however, there are many skills that one can practice to make the ride towards reaching a goal (education) much smother. One of these skills is managing your time accordingly and strategically to be able to take care of both your education and your personal life as well. Organize yourself the best way possible, and the rest will follow. Also, it is important for us to not be afraid to ask our teachers and counselors questions we do not know. It is the only way we will be able to continue moving forward, an answer is the key to the unknown, and like they say, "we learn something new every day."
Who has helped you to achieve success throughout your school career?
There has been multiple great and wonderful people throughout my life that have helped me achieve many of my goals. Within these people are my parents, teachers and community leaders that I have been in contact with.
What are your interests and hobbies? What do you like to do for fun? (Select all that apply)
Camping, Exercise, Mathematics, Music, Photography, Shopping, Traveling
