So I recently got into a car accident while driving home from school. It was a route I was very familiar with and although I've never had problems with traffic before, I struck the back of a Subaru Outback.
During those moments, which were most likely seconds but felt like hours, I did what most people probably do when they have a life-threatening experience-I reflected on my life. It sounds cheesy, it sounds cliche, but it happened.
What I realized was that i missed a ton of opportunities in college that I wished I had capitalized on when I had the chance to. In college you usually have 4 years to create a new persona or image that will often carry on into your adult life. As I come to the end of my undergraduate career, I start to long to be a freshman again to "redo" everything I missed.
So I guess this is me encouraging all the freshmen out there to really put an effort into reaching out and connecting with people. Even with the pressures of getting good grades and choosing the correct major, networking is possibly THE most valuable thing you will take out of college.
So get out there, meet people, join clubs and organizations, so that in 4 years you won't be sitting in your car entangled with the back side of a Subaru wishing you had.
