My senior year of college was a complete blur, between balancing a full courseload (I declared my major late), working 1-2 days a week, family commitments, and hanging out with my boyfriend and friends. I was so incredibly busy, but you know what? I had the. best. time. ever.
One of the biggest stressors that arises senior year is trying to figure out what you're going to do after graduation. It's hard when all of your friends are nailing down their post-grad plans and you still have no idea what you'll be doing next... and that's exactly what happened to me. Two friends stayed on at Stanford to get Master's degrees, one got a position with the nonprofit she'd worked with the previous summer, another found full-time employment at the clinic she'd been working at part-time, and my boyfriend was offered a job at the second company he interviewed with, in January. The question everyone asked each other was, "What are you doing after graduation?"
By the middle of spring quarter, I was still at a loss. I'd applied to a few jobs here and there but hadn't found anything I truly cared about, and that worried me. I think the fact that I was so busy with school and work and trying to enjoy my last year in college helped me relax and realize that it was okay to not have it all figured out.
In the end I decided not to spend my last month in school and living with my friends worried about finding a job - and I am so glad that I made that decision. I was able to goof off when I wanted to, go to every social event with my friends and boyfriend, and truly experience those last amazing weeks. In fact they were some of the best of my entire college experience! I realized that the better question we all should have been asking each other was "What are you doing until graduation?"
So here it is, my advice to you as someone who's been in the "real world" for a few years now: don't spend your last moments in college worrying about what you will do next. Enjoy that time in your life, and realize that by now you've done everything you can, and you should be proud of how far you come. Give yourself permission to have fun and I promise you will not regret it!
