Like any other senior I was excited to graduate and could not wait for the day to come. At the same time I was worry because I decided to go to college my junior year which gave me no time to get ready to apply to colleges. So even though I knew I had a little bit of time I decided to apply to San Jose State and San Francisco State. A couple of months after applying I found out that my application was not going to be considered unless I fixed the D I had in my freshmen English class. I went to my counselor right away to see what I could do and his advice was for me to take an English class at a community college so I could get credit. So I did all the paper work I needed to do to get in into the class but my counselor made a mistake filling my papers in and I missed the deadline to get enrolled in the class. I was so disappointed in myself because if I would have decided to go to college a long time ago I could have probably prevented all this problems from happening.

I had given up but the advisor from the career center showed me it wasn’t the end of my plan but instead I was going to take a different path. She told me I had other options like community college or The National Hispanic University (NHU).  The reason why NHU is separated is because it’s a four year school and is private but it is smaller than a private university. So I decided to try applying to The National Hispanic University before I tried community colleges. I did the whole application and I got accepted. My plan of going to college was on once again and all I had to worry my senior year was making sure that I had all the requirements for graduation.

When my graduation came around I couldn’t believe it was my graduation day because ever since I had my daughter people kept on telling me that I wasn’t going to graduate from high school. For me to be wearing my cap and gown and receiving that diploma was the proudest moments of my life. So my advice to all those students who doubt their dreams are going to come true is to just keep fighting for it even if you think it’s an impossible thing because you never know what will happen. Also if you want things to come true you have to work hard for them to come true.  Don’t give up!!!

Great advice.  It is possible to always succeed.  A lot of times, if you talk to the admissions offices, the advisors will tell you what you need to do.  High school councilors are there to help students graduate on time and succeed.  They like to help students.
